LOVE & MARRIAGE

My daughter's wedding has been a major creative project since she said YES to the marriage proposal of her live-in lover and equal partner in the house-work.

She asked me to read this:

Love is a temporary madness,
it erupts like volcanoes and then subsides.
And when it subsides you have to make a decision.
You have to work out whether your roots have so entwined together
that it is inconceivable that you should ever part.
Because this is what love is.
Love is not breathlessness,
it is not excitement,
it is not the promulgation of eternal passion.
That is just being 'in love' which any fool can do.
Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away,
and this is both an art and a fortunate accident.
Those that truly love, have roots that grow towards each other underground,
and when all the pretty blossom have fallen from their branches,
they find that they are one tree and not two.

Corelli's Mandolin
Louis de Bernieres

If I was super-sensitive I could be offended she didn't ask me to write a poem for her like I did for her older sister...but how could I when we celebrate Jasmine and Clinten's Love, dreams realised like diving in to the warm clear coral reef waters of wonder and evolution.

It's an Australian rural retreat where they will meet to publicly promise their commitment and care to each other along life's roads, weathering all conditions.

Sweet sugared almonds in home-made hessian bags and place names will grace the country tableaux and the music will reflect a kaleidoscope of sentiment reminding me of childhood t.v. shows.
